KEMBARA BALKAN - GREECE | 08 ATHENS : The Acropolis - Part 02

Baca info ni dulu..........

The Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the ancient fortified town of Athens, dating back to the Late Bronze Age, and the site of the best buildings of the Greek Classical age: the Parthenon, the Erectheion, the Temple of Athena Nike. Acropolis dominates the Athenian sky and symbolizes the foundation of modern culture and civilization.

As the most famous landmark of entire Greece, Acropolis is the eternal symbol of democracy, education and inspiration. If you attend a university in the European Union, bring your ID and you can enter for free.

The normal entrance price to the Acropolis and its slopes, including the Parthenon and the Theatre of Dionysus, is 20 euros, or 10 reduced (including non-EU students, as of May 2016--seems to be a recent price hike as much tourist literature provided in local hotels still has the old, much lower prices listed). A 30 euro ticket (15 reduced) also gives you entry to the Kerameikos, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Roman Agora, Ancient Agora, and Hadrian's Library, as well as Aristotle's Lyceum which is a little further away next to the Byzantine and Christian Museum. Also be aware that although the Acropolis is open until 20:00 in the summer, the other sites have earlier closing times; the 30 euro ticket is good for 5 days, but does not allow reentry to a previously visited site since the stub for each site is torn off of the large ticket when you enter; not all of the other sites offer the combined ticket, so if you plan to go to all of them, you should go to the Acropolis first. If possible, get to the Acropolis early to avoid heavy crowds, and summer heat when relevant.

There are two entrances, the lesser-used one starting near the new Acropolis Museum and allowing you to climb up through the Theatre of Dionysus, but this is a little bit more physically taxing as the climb can get steep.

Tak kira naik dari North ataupun South entrance, pengunjung perlu melalui kawasan The Propylea ni dulu.

Kena hati hati sebab tangga tu licin.

Di sebelah Propylea ni adalah Temple of Athena Nike

Di lihat dari bawah bukit

This little temple was built between 427-424 BC from a design of the architect Kallikrates. It is perched on a platform on the south-west edge of the Acropolis, and is also closed to visitors. It is an almost square building of Ionic architecture with four Ionic columns at each ends. Its frieze is adorned by a wonderful scene depicting the conference of gods and other mythological scenes on the east and south sides, and battles scenes on the other sides.

The majority of the frieze has been destroyed, while some parts, like the beautiful representation of Athena Nike (Victory) fastening her sandal, are exposed in the Acropolis museum.

Kawasan berbatu batu

This monument is the symbol of the Ancient Greek civilization. It is the most important monument until today. It was dedicated too the patron goddess of the city, Athena, since Parthenon means also the apartment of the virgin. Athena was the goddess of wisdom, war and also a virgin.

The Parthenon is located on the top of the Acropolis hill. It was created between 447 and 432 B.C., at the time of Pericles golden age, by the architect Iktinos and with the help of Kallikrates.

The famous Athenian sculptor Phedias was the supervisor of the whole project, which is a fine example of the Doric architectural style. It is made of Pentelic marble, and is made of 8 Doric columns on each of the narrow sides and 17 columns on each of the long side. The most amazing fact about this perfect achievement is that its columns are made in a zigzag as to give the impression that its foundations are straight. Its central part used to have a pool of water and to shelter a 40 feet high statue of Athena, made of gold and ivory.

Lagi kena hati hati jalan atas laluan di atas ni sebab lantai marmar tu licin. Kalau panas pun orang boleh tersembam, apatah lagi kalau time hujan. Banyak kali orang terguling time berjalan kat atas ni.

Cuaca memang panas time tu.

The Erectheion

This Temple is located on the most sacred part of the whole sacred hill. That side of the Acropolis was indeed the sanctuary were all the cults and ceremonies of Poseidon and Athena were taking place. It took its name after Poseidon killed Erechtonius, a mythical king who had the body of a snake.

The temple was a part of Pericles project and is located on the northern side of the Parthenon. It was started late, in 421 BC, due to the Peloponnesian wars and ended in 406 BC. It is an amazing example of the Ionic architecture, composed by three different dimensions basic parts which are the main temple, the northern and the southern porches. The two parts of the main temple are respectively dedicated to Athena and Poseidon.

The northern porch of six columns leads to the Temenos of Pandrossos, the place where the sacred gift of Athena to the city, the olive tree, grew. The northern porch of the temple is the most famous, since it is the one with the Caryatids, the six women replacing the columns that support the marble roof. The Caryatids were sculpted after some beautiful young models that were women from Karyes, a village of Lakonia.

Terdapat jugak Statue of Athena Promachos di balik runtuhan batu batu. So kena cari betul betul.

The Statue of Athena Promachos

On the Acropolis one can see the remains of some important statues which used to form a path. One of them, 15m from the Propylaea, is where used to stand the gigantic statue of Athena Promachos (champion). This 9m high statue was a symbol of the victory and the strength of the Athenians against the Persians.

This symbolism is the reason why its sculptor, the famous Pheidias, represented the goddess holding a shield in her left hand and a spear in her right one. The statue was taken to Constantinople by the Emperor Theodosius in 426 AD. It was destroyed in 1204 by the inhabitants of the city who blamed the statue for a crusader invasion they suffered.

Plan aku memula memang nak tunggu sunset kat atas ni. Tapi rasa macam lama sangat dah tak tau nak buat apa dah kat sini, dah la cuaca panas. So sempat aku turun setengah bukit ni lepak lepak kat pokok pokok dibawah sambil curi curi hisap rokok.

Kawasan ni kawasan larangan merokok  !

Lepak lepak sini jap. Adalah dekat setengah jam.

Pastu gigih aku panjat balik semula semata mata nak tunggu sunset dari Acropolis ni. Time ni orang dah mula turun so aku ada banyak space untuk ambik gambar..

Usha gambar sekitar Acropolis waktu menjelang senja.

Tup tup dengar orang tiup wisel pastu dia halau semua orang turun. Baru aku teringat tempat ni tutup pukul 8 malam. Masalahnya 8 malam belum senja lagi !

Maka, melepas lah nak tunggu bebetul senja kat sini.

Dah kena halau terus la turun dengan rasa kecewa

Senja belum menjelang

Orang orang lepak atas batu

Pasrah terpaksa turun. Tak puas hati aku. Tapi nak buat cemana. Turun semula ikut laluan Theatre of Herodes Atticus.

Macam ada acara

Mereka menari nari

Sebab laluan naik tadi dah tutup, aku kena keluar ikut kawasan theatre tu.

Theatre of Herodes Atticus. Nampak ramai orang, memang ada event. Konsert agaknya.

Jalan ikut pedetrian walk

Nampak orang jual jagung. Aku beli lah sebab aku lapar ! 2 Euro. Mahal gak la.

Laluan ni memang ramai orang lalu lalang. Dan port orang mencari rezeki juga.  ( Ni kalau gelap sikit mau aku lintang pukang lari kalau terserempak )

Dari situ aku patah balik ikut laluan kawasan Plaka yang aku lalu dah siang tadi.

Cafe cafe di jalanan dah mula di buka

Cafe cafe terbuka

Kedai kedai

Plaka

Orang dah ramai ramai lepak lepak minum minum dan nak dinner.

Baru nak bebetul senja

Kawasan Roman Agora

Acropolis di atas puncak

Starbucks

Sampai di Monastiraki Square semula

Orang masih ramai di kawasan ni

Senja di Monastiraki

Aku jalan kaki semula ikut jalan utama ni balik ke penginapan.

Seperti yang aku dah plan. Nak singgah makan kat kedai yang aku jumpa siang tadi

ABC Indian Tandoori

Dapat seat kat luar usha kawasan

Dapat makanan rasa nikmat tak menahan. Alhamdulillah kenyang.

Hih.

Merancang untuk destinasi esok hari.

Apa apa pun puas hati berjalan hari ni.

bersambung..................
