KEMBARA BALKAN - GREECE | 06 ATHENS : Plaka | Hadrian's Arch | Temple of Olympian Zeus

Bersambung lagi di sini.................

Bendera negara Greece bertemankan bulan sabit di tengahari

Jalan jalan tanpa tujuan.....

Jalan sambil makan buah. Kena habiskan. Baru lah boleh jadi tarzan !

Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens

Agios Eleftherios Church - Historic Byzantine-era church with stone carvings on the exterior walls & a snug interior.

Ramai orang melepak bawah pokok ambik angin.

Aku pun menumpang sama. Cuaca panas sangat nak bergerak pun rasa berat je. Jalan sikit then berehat. Usha usha kawasan dan sambung jalan lagi. Aku rasa aku masih banyak masa lagi sebab tu aku tak de lah rushing pun.

Statue of Constantine XI Palaiologos.

Beliau adalah the last reigning Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Emperor, ruling as a member of the Palaiologos dynasty from 1449 to his death in battle at the fall of Constantinople.

Welcome to Plaka...

Plaka is one of the most beautiful and oldest parts of Athens, and nestles in the shadow of the Acropolis. Delight in its labyrinth of winding streets that are filled with traditional houses, some of which date back to the 19th century. There are also plenty of cafés with seats that spill out onto open terraces. Browse the tourist shops for their paintings, carvings and hand-painted icons, and sample some Retsina and olives in an old taverna.

From your table on a flower-decked shaded terrace watch the scenes of neighborhood life unfold before you as flower sellers, street musicians and residents go about their business. Visit some of Plaka’s fascinating museums, including the Greek Folk Art Museum and the Children's Museum, then explore the ancient sites. Among the historic structures in this part of the city is the Tower of the Winds, which originates in Roman times and the 18th-century Doorway of the Medrese. Be sure to spend some time in the settlement of Anafiotika, considered to be the loveliest part of Plaka.

This 19th-century neighborhood is on the northern slopes of the Acropolis and is characterized by its Cycladic houses that are painted brilliant white and decorated with splashes of growing bougainvillea.

Plaka

Dan kat sini aku jumpa kedai jual FM murah. Like 6 ketul 5 Euro... paling murah aku jumpa.

Aku usha usha je tapi dia jual memang mahal gak ler.

Ni maybe rumah golongan pertengahan di kawasan ni

Kedai kedai cenderamata

Masa jalan jalan tu, ingat macam malas nak gi Temple Olympian tu sebab macam jauh. Panas lagi lak tu. So aku ingat nak terus ke Acropolis, tup tup terpandang view ni dari jauh.

Macam pernah ku lihat

Terus gi dekat dekat....

Oh yeah. Ini lah dia Hadrian's Arch. Salah satu landmark penting di kota Athens ni.

Dan tak jauh dari situ nampak Temple of Olympian Zeus.

Usha kawasan Hadrian's Arch dulu...........

Hadrian's Arch

Ada info kat tepi bangunan ni tapi susah nak ambik gambar sebab ramai je orang tunggu giliran..

Info...

The Arch of Hadrian in Athens, Attica: The Arch of Hadrian is a triumphal arch which lies in a walking distance from Syntagma square, right between the rock of the Acropolis and the temple of Olympian Zeus. On the northwest, this monument faces the Monument of Lycicrates in Plaka.

The construction of this temple started in 131 BC to celebrate the arrival of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and to thank him for his benefactions for the city. It is not known exactly who built this arch, whether it was the Athenians or citizens from another town. Symbolically the location of the arch was to mark the line between the ancient part of Athens and Hadrian's new city.

Takde apa pun sebenarnya. Cuma sisa bangunan sekeping je jer.

View Acropolis dari situ. Dah dekat jugak cuma nak kena memanjat je kang

Sambung baca,...

Made of fine Pentelic marble, this arch is 18 m high, 12,5 m wide and 2,3 m in depth. Its architecture resembles a lot to similar Roman arches and it is crowned by pilasters of Corinthian rhythm. The design is fully symmetrical. The monument has two layers, at the centre of the lower layer there is an arched gate through which people could pass. Also there were two columns, which do not exist any more and connected by architraves between the two layers.

Two inscriptions are carved in the architrave, one on each side: the first on the side towards the Acropolis reads "This is Athens, the ancient city of Theseus", the second on the other side, facing the new city reads "This is the city of Hadrian and not of Theseus". It is obvious that the ancient city formed new districts due to the expansion that was made by the Emperor. In the 18th century, the Arch of Hadrian served as one of the seven gates in the defensive wall that the Turks built round the city against the attack of the Albanians raiders.

Given that the monument was never fully protected, it has survived time in extraordinary condition. Unfortunately, in the recent decades, pollution has caused extensive discoloration of the original material and degradation of the inscriptions.

So kalau nak masuk kena menapak ke entrance dia. Dan entrance dia belah sana ! Kena pusing separuh daripada kawasan ni !

Fuh ! Boleh tahan gak nak menapak panas panas macam ni...

Tanda kawasan !

Temple of Olympian Zeus

The Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, also known as the Olympian, was built over several centuries starting in 174 BCE and only finally completed by Roman emperor Hadrian in 131 CE. Its unusually tall columns and ambitious layout made the temple one of the largest ever built in the ancient world.

The Temple of Olympian Zeus

Ruins and a column that collapsed in 1852 from a fierce wind, in the foreground

Acropolis. Nampak makin tinggi lak. Cemana lah kudrat aku nak sampai ke atas ni. Dengan cuaca panas berdeting macam ni.

Sixteen surviving columns, one of which is lying on the ground.

The building of the Temple of Olympian Zeus actually began in the 6th Century by Peisistratos but work was stopped either because of a lack of money or because Pisistratus's son, Hippias, was overthrown in 510 BC.

The temple was not finished until the Emperor Hadrian completed in 131 AD, seven hundred years later.

Bukit berdekatan

Bangunan bangunan di sekitar kawasan tapak warisan

The Temple of Zeus in Olympia is a hexastyle building, which was erected over three steps of stylobate.

Tumbang

Parian marble was used for making the sculptures inside the temple and Pentelic marble was used to construct the roof tiles.

The Temple of Zeus at Olympia was an ancient Greek temple in Olympia, Greece, dedicated to the god Zeus.

The temple, built in the second quarter of the fifth century BCE, was the very model of the fully developed classical Greek temple of the Doric order.

Jumpa water tap ni tadah je air buat minum. Tap water di Athens dibolehkan minum. Tanpa ragu !

Tak ingat dah statue sapa ni.

Keluar dari Olympian Zeus temple tadi aku patah balik melalui Hadrian's Arch tadi.

Bye bye Hadrian's Arch

Ada statue celah celah pokok lepas lintas jalan.

Aku dah lihat sebahagian tempat tempat menarik di Athens ni.

And now.. kini masanya.

Acropolis... kau akhirnya berjaya ku jejaki ! (padahal tak sampai lagi ni - excited terlebih )

bersambung......................
